Newcastle need a plan for Lookman

Newcastle United must fret over how they are going to handle playing Everton attacker Ademola Lookman on Wednesday as he looked chomping at the bit against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Magpies suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday to see their winning streak suddenly halted and will be eager to secure a positive result against the Toffees as a result.

However Marco Silva’s side have been excelling as of late, shown by the fact they sit sixth in the Premier League, and have a lot of players capable of dealing damage to Rafa Benitez’s side.

Yet there’s one player in particular that the Spanish manager has to find a way to stop.

The Toffees player in question is speedy winger Lookman who looked chomping at the bit to impress when brought on to replace Theo Walcott during the 1-0 defeat to the Reds.

The 21-year-old has blistering pace, seems strong on the ball and just looks generally a handful for any defence.

Given that Lookman has been starved of getting the playing time his talent deserves at Goodison Park this season, he’s yet to complete 90 minutes, as soon as he is unleashed he will be determined to stake his claim and make his mark.

A fired-up version of the Toffees speedster is capable of tearing the Magpies apart as after scoring five goals in 11 league appearances for RB Leipzig while on loan with them last season, he has proven that he has the tools to punish teams even without added motivation.

Silva, if he paid attention on Sunday, should have realised that Walcott isn’t the answer as the 29-year-old really struggled and it’s clear that with Lookman in his team instead, his side are more likely to win.

When you consider that Silva is not an inexperienced manager, he no doubted noted this and will hand Lookman the chance to impress against the Magpies on Wednesday.

This a worrying scenario for Benitez as his side would have a much easier time dealing with an out-of-form Walcott.

Therefore this means the Magpies must fret about how they are going to cope with the Toffees speedster as if they have no plan for him, he could steal the headlines on Wednesday for all the right reasons.
