With just 18 Premier League appearances to his name, you would be forgiven for forgetting all about Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons.

He was sent out on loan to Czech side Slovan Liberec in the summer but has completed his temporary spell there – which means that he has returned to Tyneside, according to the Chronicle.

While many will be pondering about Rafa Benitez’ lack of options in attack upon the 23-year-old’s return, one thing is for sure – he must not be given the time of day.

After all, he has been with the Magpies for a number of years now, yet he has only mustered up 18 outings – so why should Benitez think twice about ousting him from his plans?

There was a reason why Aarons was sent out on loan, and just because he has returned, that does not automatically mean that he warrants a first team chance all of a sudden.

He hardly set to Czech top-flight alight during his stint there, so if he is unable to do that, he is hardly going to make much of an impact at Newcastle.

Benitez is desperate, but not that desperate.

Newcastle are better off spending in the January transfer window than risking Aarons in such a critical season.

While it is harsh to write off the prospects of a player who is still so young, it is important to remember that Benitez is not just going to give Aarons a chance just because he feels sorry for him.

He is not at the standard required for the Premier League, so Benitez must not think twice about not giving the player the time of day.

The Spaniard is too good a manager to risk Newcastle’s top-flight hopes on a player who has limited top-flight experience – so any thoughts Aarons had about his first time chances must be shelved as soon as possible, as his career at the club is dead and buried.
