If you were to sum up Newcastle United’s season, it would no doubt be bang average – especially after recent results that have meant that they have slumped to 15th in the Premier League.

One point out of a possible nine means that Rafa Benitez’ team face the very real prospect of being dragged into the relegation scrap over Christmas, much to the dismay of United supporters.

However, that should not worry out-of-favour goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who is a subject of admiration from Leeds and Aston Villa according to the Sun.

Benitez is in no two minds about Martin Dubravka being his first choice keeper and Darlow would no doubt be interested in a move elsewhere after making just one appearance this season, which came in the Carabao Cup.

Freddie Woodman is currently ahead of Darlow in the pecking order due to him picking up an elbow injury, and the chances of him taking back his place on the bench once he recovers are no doubt very slim.

The report states that Benitez may not greenlight a sale despite having cover in the number one spot but realistically, he should be snapping off the arms of interested parties as this is the perfect opportunity to cash in on him.

With Bailey Peacock-Farrell one of the only decent keepers at Leeds, a move to Elland Road would make complete sense for the 28-year-old in the New Year.

Darlow has no place at Newcastle and he no doubt recognises that his future at St James’ Park is looking very bleak as time rolls on.

This is the ideal opportunity for the Magpies to get rid of one of their outcasts and raise funds for the players they need in January.

The £25,000-a-week [Spotrac] outcast needs to move on – fingers crossed Benitez recognises that too.
