Newcastle United are one of the teams in the race for Leyton Orient forward Macauley Bonne, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper claim that Leicester City are leading the chase for the 23-year-old described as the next Jamie Vardy but that the Magpies, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town are also keen on him.

The Sun report that Bonne, who has scored 17 goals in 24 appearances this season, is valued in the region of £500,000 but that the current leaders of the National League do not have to sell.

OPINION

It seems Bonne is capturing a lot of attention this season due to his prolific form and Leyton Orient might have a battle on their hands to capture him. The 23-year-old has been compared to Vardy due to having scored 25 goals in the National League last season as that is the same amount the current Premier League striker scored for Halifax in his first non-league campaign with them. Given that Vardy was plucked from the lower leagues and went on to win the Premier League title with the Foxes, it’s easy to see why teams are already sniffing around Bonne. It’s a good sign that the Magpies are already keeping tabs on him as if there’s any chance he can emulate Vardy’s rags to riches tale, he is definitely worth snapping up. With the players value being mooted as in the region of £500,000 then the Magpies definitely have the budget to get any potential deal over the line and have room to pay above his current valuation in order to chance Orient’s stance about selling him.
