Newcastle United are in a three-horse race for Tottenham defender Jaden Brown, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football news outlet claim that the Magpies, Huddersfield Town and Rangers have all been tracking the 19-year-old left-back for some time and are ready to firm up their interest by making offers for him in the New Year.

Football Insider report that Spurs could decide to sell Brown in January as the left-sided flyer is unlikely to be offered a new deal and his current contract is set to expire in the summer.

It is believed that Brown is keen on a move to Rangers as he could be tempted to leave Tottenham in search of first-team football.

OPINION

Brown hasn’t featured for Tottenham’s senior side during his career and given that Spurs have Ben Davies, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters all on their books, that’s unlikely to change in the near future. So when you consider that he is unlikely to get a new contract with his expiring nor will he get a chance to change the club’s mind by featuring for the first-team, it does seem that Brown is likely to change clubs in the near future. Football Insider’s report states that Rangers are ready to lodge a bid in order to beat Huddersfield and the Magpies to the player’s signature, which suggests if Rafa Benitez’s side want him then they have to act fast. The Magpies could definitely do with a new left-back and depth added to the squad in that position so Brown could be a wise signing if he fulfils his potential. The 19-year-old has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels, so clearly could be a star of the future, he just needs senior football to make progress in his fledgling career.
