Mick Quinn took to Twitter in order to deliver his verdict Newcastle United following their 2-1 loss to Wolves on Sunday, saying the hammer blow from Matt Doherty was a “cruel end” to the game.

The ex-Magpies forward showed his frustration at the result via his personal Twitter account after Wolves netted a stoppage time winner to claim all three points in the clash.

Quinn claims that Benitez and the team “didn’t deserve” the final result – especially after defender DeAndre Yedlin was shown a red card in the second half.

He said: “Cruel end to the NUFC game, Rafa and the boys certainly didn’t deserve that.”

OPINION

While the result was particularly cruel on Newcastle like Quinn has pointed out, it does not take away the fact that United were rather poor all afternoon, bar a couple of players. No, they did not deserve to lose in the way that they did, but perhaps this will be a wake up call to them now. They have now only taken one point from the last possible nine, and before they know it, they will be back in the relegation mix once again. The need for full-back cover was clearly apparent in this fixture, especially after Yedlin’s sending off and Javier Manquillo’s woeful second half cameo. The fact that Matt Ritchie had to once again deputise in this position shows how painfully thin the team are in terms of full-backs and Rafa Benitez is no doubt very frustrated by this. The last thing he wants to do is to bring the likes of Manquillo on, but in this fixture, he had no choice but to do that. Nevertheless, the match against Huddersfield on Saturday is a must-win.
