Newcastle United attacker Victor Fernandez took to his social media to reveal that he had undergone surgery to fix an issue which had caused the start of his season to be complicated.

The 20-year-old winger, via his official Twitter account, confirmed that the enforced surgery was on his hip and that luckily everything went well with the procedure.

Fernandez also added that he is already thinking about his recovery as he wanted to play again as soon as possible.

“This start of the season has been complicated, with some problems that have finally made me go through surgery,” tweeted the youngster following his surgery.

“Today I have had an operation in the hip but luckily everything went very well and I am already thinking on recovering as soon as possible to play again.”

OPINION

It’s promising to hear that Fernandez is on the road to recovery as his name has cropped up from time to time about being one of the club’s most promising youngster. The Chronicle reported in October that the player was dealing with a heel injury which was causing him to be unavailable for selection, yet it seems that this latest surgery was nothing to do with that problem. Fernandez was last seen playing 45 minutes for the U-23s against West Bromwich Albion in August, the side drew 1-1, so he’s already had a long spell on the sidelines as it is. Hopefully by him being ‘made’ to have surgery on his hip, it will be better for him in the long-term. The left-sided winger is not thought to be anywhere near the first-team set-up as it stands, but you feel a player of his age, may be one the club opt to loan out to get him vital experience. Yet if he continues to work hard following getting back to fitness, who knows what the future holds for this promising talent.
