The Magpies legend, via his personal Twitter account, celebrated Rafa Benitez’s side earning another three points in the Premier League and singled out forward Salomon Rondon for praise after he scored both goals in Saturday’s clash.
Shearer was probably one step away from cheering Rondon’s name upon the final whistle blowing on Saturday. The Venezuelan forward was simply sensational on Saturday and earned his side an important win by being clinical in front of goal. Rondon may have had a difficult start to life at St James Park, by missing several matches due to injury, but his latest performance could be the beginning of something special. Benitez has been crying out for a lethal finisher to fire his side to glory and Rondon clearly wants to be the player to answer his calls. It’ll be interesting to see if the forward can deliver in his next fixture for the Magpies following the international break as it will see him quickly established himself in supporters’ hearts. The Magpies’ win against Bournemouth made it two on the trot in the Premier League and that should see everyone’s fears regarding the club eased for the time being.
