Newcastle United must try everything to sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose in the January transfer window seeming as the club are in need of extra reinforcements.

Paul Dummett is usually the first name on the teamsheet, but that idea has been thrown out of the window for the time being seeing as he injured himself while playing for Wales last week.

His injury has now exposed just how painfully thin Newcastle are in terms of cover – and with the likes of Javier Manquillo and Achraf Lazaar to call upon in his potential absence, boss Rafa Benitez will no doubt be sweating.

The answer to these problems will lay with Rose, as he would be the perfect solution to United’s ongoing crisis.

The 28-year-old has not been playing for Spurs as much as he would have liked this season, with just six appearances to his name in the Premier League after being cast aside numerous times by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

That is why is makes perfect sense for the proven star to get away from the Lilywhites in January, and he would undoubtedly be in search of more first team chances – something which he is not getting on a regular basis in North London.

Benitez would be onto a masterstroke with a move for Rose, as his vast experience would prove to be invaluable to a team like Newcastle, as they could potentially be in a relegation scrap this campaign.

Rose is on £60,000-a-week [Spotrac], a five figure sum that the Magpies would be more than capable of paying him should they sign him.

What Newcastle need is a left-back like Rose who is able to put his experience to good use and give Benitez’ team that extra edge when it comes to the teams around them, especially with his speedy runs and dangerous crosses into the box.

According to the Chronicle, the Magpies’ managing director Lee Charnley wanted to sanction a bid for a new left-back – and there is no doubt that Benitez would be onto a winner with a move for a quality player like Rose.
