Newcastle United must attempt to sign Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke in the January transfer window, as the Magpies are in desperate need of another forward who can support Salomon Rondon.

United also have the likes of Joselu and Yoshinori Muto on the books, but Joselu has been abysmal this season, while Muto has not really had the chance to prove himself due to injury.

Rondon finally proved why Rafa Benitez was right to bring him to St James’ Park on loan this summer with a brace against Bournemouth during a 2-1 win before the international break, and there is no doubt that the manager will continue to use him in the hope that he maintains this scoring streak.

However, Rondon needs another striker to support him, and Liverpool’s Solanke could just be the answer.

The 21-year-old has struggled for game time in the Premier League this season as he is yet to make an appearance under Jurgen Klopp, having made a couple in the last campaign.

That no doubt means that the Reds youngster would consider a move away from Anfield in January if it means he will be given more first team opportunities at the Toon.

Newcastle would be the perfect place for him to join and he would be in with a rather good shout of making the starting XI on a regular basis – especially if you look at how he has been performing for the England under-21s recently, where he has been tearing it up on a regular basis.

Seeming as he is only on £25,000-a-week [Spotrac], his wages should not be a problem for Newcastle, meaning that a move for him looks like a no-brainer.

The Chronicle has previously reported that Benitez is using his contact book to help with the club’s transfer business, and considering that he has a good relationship with Liverpool and has already enquired about the hot-prospect, he would be mad not use this ploy to sign Solanke in January – as fireworks would surely erupt if he did.
