Newcastle United stole a march on their rivals this weekend as they welcomed Miguel Almiron’s agent to St. James’ Park to watch their win over Bournemouth.

Daniel Campos confirmed to Paraguayan radio show Futbol a lo Grande that he had been in attendance for the 2-1 victory, and revealed that a move to the Premier League was likely to happen.

It was further claimed that there are two or three clubs in the hunt for Almiron’s signature, so Newcastle will need all the help they can get to beat out those rivals for the 24-year-old.

The presence of Campos at St. James’ Park most definitely gives them a leg up on their opposition, and leaves the Magpies in a good position to sign the Paraguay international in a big-money deal in January.

To anyone doubting his quality, Almiron has netted 13 goals and laid on 13 assists this season for Atlanta United, who he has led to the MLS Conference Finals.

And if that is not convincing enough, then reported interest from clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham illustrates just how highly-regarded the playmaker is.

However, returning to Newcastle’s interest, the ball is now firmly in the Magpies’ court after this weekend’s visit from Campos, and they must convert this into a concrete bid and eventual deal in January.

Should they fail to snap up Almiron after being handed such a clear advantage, the Magpies will be kicking themselves when Almiron inevitably ends up at a rival.

After all, Campos has openly admitted that a move to the Premier League is the likely option for his client, so if it isn’t Newcastle then it will likely be a domestic opponent.

For Newcastle to miss out on such a chance would be unforgivable, particularly when you consider how badly they need some creativity and goal threat from behind the striker, and they must not pass up this chance.
