COMMENTARY
Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar all shone during Newcastle United’s 2-1 victory over Burnley on Monday and this has lots of fans claiming that Jamaal Lascelles will now struggle to feature for the Magpies as a result. The 6ft 2in tall centre-back (Source: Transfermarkt) missed the clash with the Clarets at Turf Moor due to injury and it seems that supporters believe in his absence it has been proven that Rafa Benitez should choose other players ahead of the defender. One fan claimed that Schar was streets ahead of Lascelles when on the ball and in fairness as it stands they seem spot-on. Schar has been sensational since being unleashed in the Magpies’ first-team and it would be unfair if he was dropped to the bench to accommodate the Magpies’ captain. The 26-year-old has to wait patiently to be an given an opportunity to impress and if Benitez takes him out his team, then it would be very harsh on the summer recruit. While some debate whether it’s Fernandez or Schar that will keep Lascelles out the team, it seems to be agreed overall that the much-loved Magpies captain has his work cut-out when fully fit.
