At last – Newcastle United supporters can actually revel in a well-fought victory after securing a 1-0 result over Watford on Saturday.

Some may question how United even got the win the first place – after all, Watford were all over them in the first half, and they were lucky not to have gone behind early on.

One player who was instrumental in the victory is summer recruit Ki Sung-Yeung, who was outstanding during his cameo at the weekend.

Many would have been fearing the worst after Jonjo Shelvey was hauled off in the second half for the South Korean international, but it seems like his supposed injury may not have been so bad for the Magpies after all.

Rafa Benitez must be kicking himself for not starting the in-form ace more often earlier in the season, as the immediate impact he made on this game will not be forgotten for a long time.

As soon as Ki stepped on to the pitch, Newcastle’s attack was transformed in an instant, and it was his creative influence on the play that created the only goal of the fixture.

The South Korean was fed mainly dribs and drabs towards the start of the season, and it is safe to say that the Newcastle faithful never really took him in to their hearts after his mediocre displays.

After that, the ace was never given much of a look in, which is rather unfair considering the current midfielders have not been up to scratch.

Nevertheless, he has certainly made a case to be started on a regular basis from this point on, and Benitez would certainly be mad not to.

It must be a kick in the teeth for the Spaniard after theĀ blunder he made over Ki – but it does not take a genius to work out that he must feature in the place of Mo Diame, who somehow warrants a spot in the starting XI every week despite his underwhelming displays.
