Michael Owen has predicted Newcastle United to draw with Burnley when the two face-off at Turf Moor on Monday.

The former Magpies forward shared that a draw with the Clarets wouldn’t be the worst result in the world despite Sean Dyche’s side not having the best record at home this season.

Owen shared that he thought the Magpies were due a draw given that in their last 12 fixtures away from home on a Monday, they haven’t managed to register one.

“Burnley have only won one of their last eight home league games and I don’t believe we will see many goals in the Monday night fixture,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.

“I always believed United were in a false position in the table in the early weeks of the season and the Magpies have won their last couple of league games. A point at Turf Moor wouldn’t be the worst result in the world.

“One interesting stat – United have played their last 12 games on a Monday night away from home (L11 W1). They are due a draw!”

OPINION

Burnley have been struggling this season after a fantastic 2017/18 campaign. While Owen is right to say a draw with them wouldn’t be the worst result, the Magpies should be targeting three points. Rafa Benitez’s side historically have a terrible record when playing away from home on a Monday, which Owen highlighted, but that means nothing in terms of the upcoming clash. It’s coincidence that the Magpies have struggled to get the results when seeing their game take place on a Monday in recent times. Given that the Magpies showed promising signs ahead of the international break, hopefully they’ll continue to looking promising in their first game back. This is especially the case with Salomon Rondon who submitted his best appearances in a Magpies shirt to date and really looked like being the attacker fans have been eagerly waiting to see arrive at St James Park. However fans want to see the Venezuelan forward deliver the goods on a regular basis so they will be expecting to see him excel against Burnley.
