Newcastle United are unlikely to sign striker Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis when his loan expires, according to reliable journalist Mark Douglas.

In a Q&A session on the Chronicle website, the reliable reporter revealed that a permanent deal for the 6ft 1in [Transfermarkt] summer recruit looks unlikely when his loan expires, a move that was previously blocked in the last transfer window for financial reasons.

It is also understood that Mo Diame will be out of contract at the end of the season, and that Jack Colback will be joining Nottingham Forest.

OPINION

Salomon Rondon has had a rather indifferent season with Newcastle so far, so it does not seem surprising that they are unlikely to greenlight a permanent move for him when his loan deal expires in the summer. He has only scored one goal this season, with came in the Carabao Cup and not the Premier League. Overall, he has not had the best time so far, but fingers crossed that he does find his form over the course of the season, otherwise the Magpies are going to really struggle in the attacking department. We know that he is capable of a lot more, but his fitness has let him down, much to the disappointment of Rafa Benitez. Newcastle may end up losing two strikers in the summer, as Rondon is likely to return to West Brom, who will no doubt be keen to tie up a permanent move for the in-form Dwight Gayle. Nevertheless, the news that United will not be making a permanent move for the 29-year-old should not really come as a shock to anyone.
