Newcastle United have been handed a double injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester United on Saturday after defenders Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett returned to training, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper report that the defensive duo were spotted training with the rest of the squad after both missed their loss v Leicester City with minor injuries.

The Chronicle claim that it is likely both men will be in contention to start at Old Trafford after returning to training on Wednesday, in what is a big boost for Benitez and the Magpies.

OPINION

This is a big boost for Newcastle United after their disappointing result last time out against Leicester. The Magpies were expected to put in an improved display against the Foxes after facing off against four of the Premier League top-six in their first few matches, but that did not materialise unfortunately. Attacking has been the source of many of their problems this season, with just five goals scored in all competitions, and that was an issue again last weekend. Defence was also an issue however as they failed to keep out the Foxes, and some changes will have to be made as they prepare for United. The Red Devils are in poor form as well, but will be looking to bounce back with a big result ahead of the international break. The returns of Fernandez and Dummett will most certainly help the Magpies’ cause, with both men having solid seasons so far.
