Alan Shearer shared that he wished he was able to put more Newcastle United players in his Team of the Weeks after a fan asked him about the lack of representation the club had in his teams currently.

The Magpies legend issued the three-word responses after sharing his latest Premier League Team of the Week on his Instagram, which contained no members of Rafa Benitez’s squad despite their decent performance against Manchester United on Saturday.

Shearer’s Team of the Week instead featured two Wolves players, two Manchester City players, three Chelsea players, one Bournemouth player, one Arsenal player, one Manchester United player and one Everton player.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Shearer would love to include some Newcastle players in his future TOTWs, but the fact of the matters is, most of Benitez’s side are struggling currently. While several Magpies players upped their game against Man United on Saturday and were unfortunate to witness their side drop a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 instead, it wasn’t enough to make Shearer’s elusive eleven. It’s also no surprise that the icon footballer has struggled to find Magpies players to include in previous weeks as it has been a miserable campaign so far. Benitez is yet to guide his side to a win in the league and the majority of their performances have been uninspiring as a result. Hopefully after showing signs of life against Man United at Old Trafford, the Magpies will turn a corner after the international break. Then everyone associated with Newcastle United will be happy as it would mean points on the board and it would Shearer guess to say positive things about his beloved club.
