Peter Kenyon is focusing his efforts to find investors in America in order to help him put together a bid to takeover Newcastle United, according to the Northern Echo.

The local newspaper claim that the 64-year-old, who is working for the consultancy firm, Opto Advisers, has been instructed to find funding to help put together a formal bid to purchase the Magpies off Mike Ashley.

The Northern Echo report that Kenyon is looking for investors in the United States ahead of any other country as he believes there is a greater chance of immediate investment from interested parties in the US.

It is believed that while Kenyon is looking for investors and had interest from two different groups, he is still a far distance away from making a formal offer for the Premier League club.

OPINION

This is a promising report that provides some fresh details on Kenyon’s attempts to put together a bid to takeover Newcastle. Clearly the 64-year-old has narrowed down where his best chance of securing the funds to buy the Magpies is by zoning in on investors based in American. Kenyon no doubt has a reason for believing that his best chance lies in America so it’s good that he always pursuing his best options. However it is always disappointing to read that he is a fair distance away from a formal bid being lodged as that means the trouble behind the scenes at the Magpies continues. While Ashley has started to attend games once again, it is clear that the club will not progress under him as why would he invest in an asset that he is trying to get rid of. Hopefully Kenyon gets lucky in his hunt for funds in America otherwise he may have to go back to the drawing board which will only slow him down in his pursuit of the club.
