Newcastle United winger Victor Fernandez took to his social media to vent his frustration over currently being on the sidelines.

The 20-year-old has not been in action for the Magpies’ reserves side since August when he played 45 minutes of the team’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion’s Under-23s.

The Chronicle reported in October that the reason for Fernandez’s absence was because he was he struggling with a heel injury and the player opted on Sunday to break his silence over the issue.

“It is always frustrating to miss training sessions and games because of an injury,” wrote Fernandez on his official Twitter.

“I have no other choice than accepting it, keep working and coming back stronger.

“Finally facing the final stretch of the recovery process with full desire to come back and compete. Let’s go!”

OPINION

It’s very understandable that Fernandez is eager to be out training with his teammates and regularly playing football, so no wonder he has vented his frustration on Twitter. However the Magpies are right to be cautious about unleashing Fernandez back into their reserve side if he has any signs of an injury. The winger’s promising reputation precedes him and he appears to be one of the club’s youth prospects that fans should be keeping a close eye on. Fernandez featured 17 times across all competitions for the Magpies’ U-23s last season and demonstrated his tricky feet as well as his ability to be a handful for his opponents.  The winger may not have scored and only registered one assist during those displays but he did show promising signs that his development was on the right course. While Fernandez seems a long way off from being called up to the senior side as it stands, if he continues to work hard then maybe one day he’ll be able to break into the first-team to make his first senior appearance for the side.
