We all know that Newcastle United are really struggling for goals this season, and it was not made any easier when Salomon Rondon was forced to sit on the sidelines through injury.

United never really provide that cutting edge in attack and it is no surprise really – none of their strikers seem to be doing the business for them at the moment.

However, one way Rafa Benitez can save millions in January is by looking to start under-23s forward Elias Sorensen instead of splashing out on some new talent.

The youth side blitzed their Aston Villa counterparts 5-2 on Monday night, with the in-form youth ace bagging his second hat-trick in just four games to put the opposition to shame.

The youngsters are grabbing more goals than their senior colleagues, and Benitez would be mad not to reward Sorensen for the form he has recently displayed.

Not many players can boast that they scored two hat-tricks in four games, so the manager needs to take notice quickly before anyone else does.

Seeming as owner Mike Ashley is highly unlikely to provide the required funds in order to bring in a suitable attacker in January, looking closer to home may be the best option for Benitez at the moment.

Sorensen is clearly in the best form of his life so far, but he can make Benitez’ life so much easier if he is started over the next few weeks.

Yes, some may argue that his excellent displays for the under-23s will not necessarily translate onto the pitch for the senior team – but at the moment, Benitez has nothing to lose.

If putting one of the youth strikers into the mix will solve his problems up front, then so be it – after all, he is not in a position where he can afford to be super-picky with his players.

It is hard to envision that the hitman is only 19-years-old, as he plays with a talent and maturity far beyond his years.

Nevertheless, on the back of this astonishing performance against Villa, Benitez must reward the youngster with the senior start that could potentially transform Newcastle’s season.
