Many Newcastle United fans went wild on social media after they realised former player Ivan Toney had cost Sunderland three points against Peterborough United on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old forward, who left St James Park to permanently join Peterborough in the summer, scored in the 84th minute of his side’s clash with the Magpies’ local rivals to see them game end 2-2.
While a section of Magpies fans would usually celebrate any disappointment that Sunderland suffer, a large number when particularly wild with celebrations on Twitter after realising that it was Toney who had ruined The Black Cats’ day.
One Magpies supporter tweeted to claim that the forward was a legend while several simply stated ‘haha’ on their social media accounts in order to celebrate at Sunderland’s expense.

OPINION
Magpies fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about lately so they are going to celebrate where they can. While normally the majority of supporters would ignore Sunderland dropping points at home, it was hard for most to resist lapping up the result when they saw that Toney was involved. The 22-year-old managed to make only four appearances for the Magpies’ senior side during his three-year stint with the club as he was regularly sent out on loan. However it seems he has found a way to cement himself in the heart of Magpies supporters by taking his opportunity to score against Sunderland on Tuesday. Toney may have moved on from St James Park this summer in order to kick-start his career but he no doubt appreciates the love and support that Magpies fans have opted to show him. This section of tweets also shows a lot about how Magpies fans just want the best for Toney despite him no longer being their player.
