Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame has claimed that the Magpies ‘can beat anybody’ on their day, and many fans have taken to Twitter to react angrily to the comments.
As quoted by the Chronicle, Diame said: “We know we can beat anybody. Itโs about doing our job properly. We need to change things to make sure we are on our game.”
Newcastle fans on Twitter who spotted the statement have now been reacting to it, with many slamming the midfield mainstay for his words.

COMMENTARY
These Newcastle fans have been quick to mock Diame for his comments, and you can see why. Newcastle hardly look like beating the top sides in the Championship at the moment let alone those in any kind of form in the Premier League. The Magpies are one of just two sides left in the division without a win, so Diame’s comments seem slightly misplaced considering the situation they find themselves in at the moment. Obviously you want your players to be positive, and you can see where Diame is coming from in saying these things, but is is understandable that these fans have been quick to jump on him for making these remarks. A weekend fixture against Southampton could be the biggest game of their season. The Saints are struggling for form under Mark Hughes and so are there for the taking, and a win could propel the Magpies out of the drop zone. However, a loss to Southampton would simply ramp up the pressure even more, and could be a result which totally derails their season.ย
