John Harton shared that he didn’t think Newcastle United would be able to lure Brendan Rodgers away from Celtic at this time.

The pundit, regularly seen on BT Sport Score, shared that he believes the current Hoops boss has his heart of being the man to lead the Scottish giants to their tenth league title in the row.

Hartson shared that he thought the Magpies had the money to offer Rodgers more money on a personal level as well as hand him a bigger transfer budget then the one he gets at Celtic, but claimed the manager isn’t about that.

“I don’t care of Newcastle are looking at him and thinking that he might be the man if they part company with Rafa Benitez or if Leicester are thinking that he might be a better option than Claude Puel,” wrote Hartson in his column for the Evening Times.

“In terms of money both of these clubs could blow Celtic entirely out of the water both in terms of what they can offer on a personal level and on a transfer budget.

“But that isn’t what it is about for Rodgers.

“I know because he has told me personally than he is happy with his life and happy at his work in Glasgow. As I have said in this column already, if I end up with egg on my face then so be it and I am sure I won’t be able to open my phone without being reminded of it on a daily basis.

“But I honestly believe what I am saying. I think Brendan has his heart set on being the man to deliver the ten.”

OPINION

The Daily Mirror started this discussion about whether Rodgers would be the ideal man to succeed Rafa Benitez as manager due to them claiming that the Magpies were considering trying to poach him from Celtic. Yet it’s hard to imagine the Magpies replacing Benitez with Rodgers. The Celtic manager is underrated as even though he has brought constant success to the Hoops, people write-off his accomplishments due to it being the Scottish league. However Rodgers previously showed at Swansea City as well as Liverpool that he is capable of being a good Premier League manager, so there are worst possible successors for Benitez out there. Though what is most amusing about the BT pundit’s assessment of Rodgers potentially going to St James Park is that he says that they can offer a bigger budget. While that is true as Celtic don’t exactly spend big, the Magpies’ are hardly every complimented for their financial muscle due to Mike Ashley liking to lock away his wallet.
