Former Sunderland player Kieran Richardson shared that he has predicted Newcastle United to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

The 34-year-old defender, who made 134 for the Magpies’ local rivals, shared that while he wasn’t personally worried about Rafa Benitez’s side, he did believe that he thought the team’s lack of goals would condemn them to the Championship.

Richardson admitted that he did rate Benitez as a manager due to his unbelievable track record and suggested he couldn’t be blamed for his club’s current struggles.

“I’m not worried about them, I think Newcastle have not got the goals, they let Mitrovic go and Gayle go so that’s a lot of goals leaving your team,” said the current free agent on talkSPORT (Monday October 29th, 12:14pm).

“For me personally I don’t think they have the goals in that team to stay up.

“Well Ashley wants to sell the club right? But I like Benitez, look at his track record it’s unbelievable, sometimes you can’t keep blaming the manager at Newcastle and it’s always been the manager and they’ve got rid of everyone.

“As you’ve said Ashley wants to sell the club so got do what you gotta do.”

OPINION

Well Sunderland fans will no doubt love their former star’s remarks as it seems to have no love for their rivals nor does he predict a bright future for them. Richardson clearly believes the Magpies struggles for goals will not only continue but they will end up costing the club its Premier League status. While some will say the 34-year-old is making the remarks due to his Sunderland connection, it would be hard to tell him where the necessary goals are going to come from. As it stands all the club’s hopes are pinned on Salomon Rondon getting back up to speed after a recent injury in order to become a prolific force. The only issue is the former West Brom forward has never looked overly clinical in the Premier League so even if he is at 100%, it will be hard to know whether he can be the answer to his side’s prayers. Hopefully Richardson will be left with egg over his face over backing the Magpies for relegation this season, but the club need to start getting results soon, that is for sure.
