If there is one thing that Newcastle United fans do not get optimistic about, it is the club’s transfer budget – after all, owner Mike Ashley is not the most generous of people.

However, in this case, the fans will have to bite their tongues – as even Rafa Benitez is optimistic about what the January transfer window will bring.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Brighton on Saturday, Benitez confirmed that he does not know the transfer kitty for January – but said on the same breath that he was confident that the club can achieve what it has set out to do.

“I have been speaking with Lee Charnley this week, but I usually speak with him. I spoke with Steve Nickson too. I don’t know my budget for January, but it is not a problem. I am confident we can achieve what we want to achieve,” he said, as quoted by the Chronicle.

I don’t know about you, but Benitez’s comments do not make much sense – however, supporters must trust the optimism that he has in regards to transfers.

Yes, the fact that he does not yet know how much he will have to spend after Christmas is rather concerning – but if he says that it is not a problem, than fans must not take issue either.

If anybody can guide the Magpies safely out of trouble on a limited budget, it is is Benitez – after all, he ensured that his side finished tenth upon their return to the Premier League.

As it hard as it may be, fans will have to put their faith in their manager on this one.

Yes, Ashley’s stance on funds is incredibly unfair – but taking issue with it all the time is not going to get the club anywhere, and they certainly do not need the negativity right now.

The club faithful must trust Benitez’ optimism, as he is the only man who knows how to get Newcastle out of this current mess.
