Another day, another update over the future of Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez – and many fans will no doubt be hoping that the madness will end soon.
The fiasco has been going on for a while now, but supporters will be tearing their hair out at the latest update on Benitez’ future at St James’ Park.
According to the Mirror, the Magpies still want the Spaniard to put pen to paper on a new deal, but there is no chances of that happening – even if Mike Ashley suddenly has a change of heart and decides to splurge in January.
This is certainly not the news that the club faithful would have been wanting to hear, and there is no doubt that they will be sweating buckets following this report.
It seems that even if Newcastle put the effort in and provide the desired funds in the next transfer window, Benitez will not be convinced to extend his stay.
Whether he mind can be swayed in the next few weeks remains to be seen, but at the moment, there is little chance he will remain beyond the end of the season.
Fans will be distraught by this, and there is one person that they will lay all the blame on – and that person is Ashley.
He has not made much of an effort to retain the services of the highly-respected manager so far, so why would Benitez suddenly decide that the Sports Direct tycoon has changed his ways?
If anything, he has not been made to feel entirely welcome at United, and that is rather sad considering the mess they currently find themselves in.
Newcastle fans up and down the country would have pinned all their hopes for the club’s success on Benitez – and by the looks of things, he is the one person that can lift United from the bottom of the Premier League.
Benitez’ future on Tyneside now looks very bleak indeed – and all the supporters can do now is cross their fingers and wait.
