A number of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting negatively to forward Ayoze Perez’s performance against Southampton on Saturday.
The Spaniard produced another listless display in the teams’ goalless draw, as he failed to provide any sort of out-ball or inspiration for his teammates.
This was merely the latest in a string of disappointing showings from the 25-year-old, who is on a reported £45,000-per-week at St James’ Park [Source: Spotrac], and the Toon Army freely aired their frustrations with the attacker.
COMMENTARY
This is one of those instances where the team’s supporters have every right to criticise one of their players. Perez has, frankly, been woeful so far this season and his performance against the Saints showed that that’s not going to change any time soon. Rafael Benitez’s continued insistence on starting his compatriot defies all laws of logic. The 25-year-old has yet to produce a solid display this campaign, yet he continues to make Benitez’s starting eleven week in week out. It’s simply baffling and the Magpies fans have clearly had enough. Perez simply never looked a threat against Mark Hughes’s side, and if he can’t find success against one of the worst defences in the Premier League then when is he ever going to have an impact? Saturday’s showing merely confirmed what every Newcastle supporters knows already: Perez simply isn’t good enough, and Benitez needs to open his eyes to that fact.
Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets below.
5 years of watching Perez float around, not asking for the ball, not tackling and missing sitters. I can do more. #nufc pic.twitter.com/O6IrTCAQh1

Instead of a simple pass to Kenedy who would been in on goal, Perez does stepovers and passes too late! Can’t take much more of him! #nufc
