Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has not received any adequate offers for the sale of the club, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims on their website that Ashley’s priority was to sell the club by last Christmas, but since no acceptable offers were made for the club, Newcastle still remains for sale.

It is understood that the Sports Direct tycoon is not willing to sell unless the new potential owners demonstrate that they have the finances to help the club progress.

Sky adds that Newcastle has recently gathered interest from the Middle East, with a group of Saudi Arabian investors being the latest admirers – but the club have not had any contact from this party.

OPINION

Who knows when the club will actually be sold by Ashley. It has been up for sale for over a year now, and Ashley is still no closer in parting ways with Newcastle. Yes, he has not received any acceptable offers for the club, but this undoubtedly means that he needs to do more in order to attract the right buyers. His prediction that the club would be sold by last Christmas have obviously turned to dust, and it is unlikely that Newcastle will be sold by this Christmas either. Newcastle need new owners, and fast – they simply cannot continue in this way. Ashley no doubt has an extortionate figure in mind and he is obviously waiting for someone to stump up this cash – but he may be waiting a very long time. Either he starts pumping money into Newcastle’s transfer funds, or he makes the club more attractive to prospective buyers – it is his choice.
