Newcastle loanee striker Dwight Gayle is tempted to make a move to China at the end of his temporary spell at West Bromwich Albion, according to the Sunday People [as transcribed by the Chronicle].

The newspaper reports that the 27-year-old is a subject of interest from a group of Chinese Super League clubs, where he could pocket around £10.4million-a-year (£200,000-a-week) if he was tempted to make the move to Asia.

The forward was involved in a swap deal with Salomon Rondon earlier this summer, who headed in the opposite direction in order to join forces with Rafa Benitez on Tyneside, the pair leaving their respective clubs on a temporary basis.

OPINION

This news that a group of Chinese could be interested in snatching Gayle after his season-long loan at West Brom does come as a surprise. Never did anyone think that he would be the subject of interest from China, but this report claims that he is. Whether Gayle is tempted to try his luck in Asia remains to be seen, but this report could indicate that there is no future for the attacker on Tyneside. Moving to China can always be a risk, and it is often a move that players in England consider towards the end of their careers in order to rake in as much cash as they can. Gayle is nowhere near that milestone yet, so it would be a shock to see him make the move. After this season, he still has a lot more to offer, so it would be a shame to see him go to China instead of returning to Newcastle.
