Danny Murphy shared that Newcastle United were really struggling in his opinion before making a cheeky remark about their next game against Manchester United.

The BBC pundit delivered his damning verdict on the Magpies before cheekily commenting that they had an easy fixture next week as they were set to play Man United at Old Trafford.

Murphy alluded to the fact that Jose Mourinho’s side weren’t in the of best form ahead of hosting Rafa Benitez’s side next Saturday.

“Really struggling (Newcastle) but they’ve got an easy one next at Old Trafford, they’ll be looking forward to that,” said Murphy on BBC One’s Match of the Day repeat (Sunday September 30, 9:54am).

OPINION

Murphy may have made a really cheeky comment to lighten the mood when analysing Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday, but it’s still hard to crack a smile about the current troubles at the club. The Magpies were all over the shop against the Foxes and it was a relatively comfortable victory for their opponents at the weekend. It’s concerning that even though Man United slumped to a 3-1 victory courtesy of West Ham on Saturday and the fact there seems to be a lot of drama behind the scenes at Old Trafford, the Magpies still don’t look like beating them. Benitez’s side struggled to work the Foxes’ goalkeeper on Saturday and it’s hard to see how the Spanish manager is going to turn his side into a prolific threat anytime soon. The Magpies don’t look like having anyone capable of regularly scoring the goals, especially with Salomon Rondon rooted to the sidelines, and don’t seem to have anyone capable of creating opportunities either. This is the case even though the Magpies have the pass master Jonjo Shelvey to call upon as he has struggled to look at the races all season.
