Rafa Benitez must instantly axe Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark from his starting line-up after the international break and play Fabian Schar instead.

Clark has had a woeful campaign this season as after being handed the opportunity to establish a guaranteed place in Benitez’s line-up, he has squandered it by constantly being a liability.

The 6ft 1in tall defender (Source: Transfermarkt) has featured in five games so far this season and it’s hard to find a performance to praise with his outing against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup being the stuff of nightmares.

Clark’s troubles have continued on international duty for the Republic of Ireland as he was torn apart during his side’s recent 4-1 loss to Wales and it’s clear that his form is not going to improve.

Benitez must act straight away to bin the centre-back from his team, not only to end his misery but in order for the Magpies to start achieving more positive results.

The Spanish manager decision to axe Clark should also happen as soon as possible due to the fact Schar showcased all his wonderful talents in a moral-boosting display for his nation.

The 26-year-old shone for Switzerland in their 6-0 thrashing of Iceland on Saturday as not only was he a rock at the back to earn his team a clean sheet, he also assisted two of his country’s goals.

Schar previously submitted a respectable display for the Magpies against Chelsea, which has been his only Premier League outing of the season, and it’s clear he would be an improvement on Clark.

Therefore Benitez must axe the 6ft 1in tall centre-back now in order to end his misery especially after his teammate excelled while on international duty.
