Jeff Stelling predicted Newcastle United’s clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park to end as a 2-2 draw.

The host of Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday shared that the Magpies simply have to go at side’s like Palace and for that reason he expected their upcoming clash to produce goals.

While Stelling highlighted the Magpies’ fantastic record against the London Club in his prediction for Sky Sports’ Super 6, which can be watched on Twitter, he shared that he thought the points would be shared.

“Crystal Palace take on a Newcastle side still looking for their win of the season, Newcastle have a great record against Palace, only lost once in 15 meetings home and away,” said the 63-year-old.

“Can they stop Wilfried Zaha by fair means or foul?

“I see goals in this because Newcastle have got to have a go against side’s like Palace, Palace two, Newcastle two.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with Stelling’s logic as hopefully Rafa Benitez will unleash a more attack-minded side compared to the ones he fielded in the games against Manchester City and Chelsea. The Magpies may not be drowning in lethal finishers but the likes of summer recruits Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto should be chomping at the bit to get their first league goals for the club. Roy Hodgson’s side appear to be strong defensively while having the sublime talent Zaha to be their main attacking threat, so getting three points at Selhurst Park will be a difficult task for the Magpies. However if Benitez gets his selection right and his players deliver the performances that they’re capable of then a positive result is attainable. Whether Saturday’s game will bring the Magpies’ first league win of the season is debatable but hopefully Stelling is right to suggest that another Premier League defeat isn’t on the cards.
