A section of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to express their elation at striker Joselu after his display in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The 28-year-old attacker did not feature in boss Rafa Benitez’ starting line-up, but came on in the second half to replace Salomon Rondon in the 62nd minute.

That cameo appearance by the 6’3″ [Transfermarkt] star resulted in United’s only goal of the game, which came in the 83rd minute.

Despite the loss to Chelsea, the majority of Magpies’ supporters took to Twitter to gush over the Spaniard, with comments including “it’s no coincidence that Joselu has upped his game” and “hope he bangs them in more often.”

OPINION

Despite the loss to Chelsea, the Newcastle fans here could not be more full of praise for their striker. He has now scored two goals in three games, and they were unlucky that his goal did not earn them a draw with the Blues. A lot has changed since the first game against Tottenham, where many supporters were undoubtedly up in arms over Joselu starting – but that seems to be history now. Even new signing Salomon Rondon could not find a way through Chelsea and it seems Joselu stood out for them at the weekend. Based on these tweets, his goal is obviously a talking point amongst the fans, even if it did not help his team get a positive result. However, one fan has predicted that Joselu will continue netting goals for United, remarking “hope he bangs them in more often.” Fingers crossed for the club faithful that this is the case, and that they can register their first win of the season soon.
