Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet has completed a medical with Bursaspor and the move should be announced within the next 24 hours, according to Turkish Football.

The Turkish outlet report that Saivet has all but agreed a deal to join the Super Lig side after travelling to Bursa yesterday and undergoing the requisite medical testing.

Turkish Football claim that official confirmation of the transfer is expected in the next day or so, but do not provide any information on a fee with Saivet having 3 years left on his deal at St. James’ Park.

OPINION

Saivet has long been expected to leave Newcastle this summer after two seasons at club which have seen him play just eight first-team games. The Senegal international has obviously been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Rafa Benitez, who clearly does not even want to keep him around for cover. Why exactly Saivet’s career at Newcastle has not worked out is not really known, but Benitez is quite clear about his methods and if a player does not buy into them then they will be sold, as illustrated by the exit of Aleksandar Mitrovic. The 27-year-old spent half of last season on loan at Sivasspor in the Super Lig and a return to Turkey was always the likeliest move for the midfielder. It looks like this deal is all but completed, however it is not clear whether it will be another loan or a permanent deal. Newcastle obviously have no use for Saivet so a permanent deal makes sense, but whether Bursaspor have the money for that is not known.
