Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of striker Yoshinori Muto from Bundesliga side Mainz, and many fans have taken to Twitter to react positively to the news.

As announced on the club’s official website, the £9.5million deal has been completed following the 26-year-old being granted a work permit by the FA in a hearing on Thursday.

Many fans have now reacted to the club’s fifth summer signing on Twitter, with a large section of the Toon Army seemingly delighted about the prospect of seeing the Japan international grace the turf at St. James’ Park.

Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:

OPINION

This is a timely boost for the Magpies after a torrid night in Portugal which saw them thrashed 4-0 by Braga in a match which exposed several shortcomings in the playing squad. The signing of Muto was always going to happen after the announcement last week, but the confirmation could not have come at a better time after an embarrassing defeat. The frustration of such a loss obviously got to manager Rafa Benitez, who laid into the club board heavily in the post-match press conference, lamenting the situation in which he found himself at this point in the window. It is hard to blame him for his frustration, with that now carrying over to the fans, who are clearly on edge as we approach the start of the season.
