Newcastle United still have a chance of signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Stanley N’Soki, according to reliable journalist Keith Downie.

The journalist – who covers Newcastle and other north-east clubs for Sky Sports News – has claimed on his personal Twitter account that a deal for the young centre-back is still on the cards, after he was asked by a fan if N’Soki was still a target for the Magpies.

The versatile 5″10 (source: Transfermarkt) enforcer has made just one league appearance for PSG in the French top-flight during the 2017/2018 campaign, after being promoted to the ‘B’ team last year.

OPINION

Newcastle have the potential to be welcoming a few new players during the next few days, which is not what fans would have expected considering the low budget Rafa Benitez has to work with. However, N’Soki is a young, inexperienced defender, and it remains to be seen why the club are still pursuing his services. That is not to say that he is not a talented player, but his experience is too limited to even be considered as cover for United’s current centre-backs, as he would certainly not oust the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune or Fabian Schar. If centre-back cover is what Benitez is looking for, then he needs to ends his pursuit of the young Frenchman immediately and turn his attention quickly onto someone else. Fast forward a few years and N’Soki may be ready for the Premier League – but right now he is nowhere near ready, and he needs a couple more seasons playing with PSG to be even considered.
