Newcastle United attacker Salomon Rondon will be a future headache for Mike Ashley after West Bromwich Albion reportedly activated their option to extend his contract by a year.

The Daily Mail reported that the Championship club had extended the contract of the forward, who is currently on loan at the Magpies, to ensure that he wouldn’t become a free agent next summer.

The national newspaper stated that after the player’s £16.5million release clause expired earlier in the summer then the Magpies would have to negotiate a fee with WBA if they wished to purchase him after his loan spell ends.

The Baggies will surely demand more than £16.5million for his services when it comes to selling him as Rondon will surely increase his value while at St James Park.

The 28-year-old played 31 minutes of the Magpies’ clash against Spurs on Saturday and showed glimpses that he had all the tools required to be the club’s ideal number nine.

Rondon is almost guaranteed to regular feature for Rafa Benitez’s side this season as the Spaniard isn’t exactly drowning in options to play upfront.

Given that the 28-year-old has all the skills needed to succeed at the Magpies and the fact he will be regularly playing in the Premier League this season then he will be a future headache for Mike Ashley.

The Magpies owner who doesn’t appear to liking spending huge amounts of money on recruiting players will not only be frustrated over not paying £16.5million when he had the chance but will no doubt feel the pressure to sign Rondon if he becomes vital to the team.

This will see the Baggies hold all the cards when comes to negotiating a deal for their forward and this means that Ashley will no doubt either have to pay an amount he doesn’t want to or receive a lot of backlash from supporters if he doesn’t get a deal done.

Either way it won’t be a pleasant experience for the businessman and this means that Rondon is destined to be a future headache for him following the reported development regarding the player’s contract.
