Newcastle United are in talks regarding a loan-to-buy deal for Liverpool striker Danny Ings, according to the Northern Echo

The regional newspaper report that the 26-year-old is keen on a move to the north-east as he prepares to leave Liverpool following a disappointing two-year spell on Merseyside.

The Echo claim that talks have taken place over a season-long loan with an option to buy for £15million in place if Newcastle manage to avoid relegation.

OPINION

Signing Ings would be a huge statement for Newcastle to make ahead of the new season, especially considering the poor window that the club have endured so far. The imminent signing of Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion should see Rafa Benitez get the striker he has wanted all summer, but a successful swoop for Ings would truly transform this Magpies attack. Scoring goals was a massive problem for the Toon in 2017/18, with Benitez’s men netting just 39 goals in 38 Premier League games. For them to end the summer with Rondon, Ings, and Yoshinori Muto as options up front would be massive, and would surely spell an end to their troubles in front of goal. Rondon would be the focal point for their attack, and having Ings or Muto playing off the Venezuelan could work perfectly for the club as they look to build on last season.
