Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is in the running to be the next signing at Newcastle United, according to Football Whispers.

The football site claim that the 5″11 (source: Transfermarkt) Premier League frontman has a good chance of ending his five-year spell with the Reds by heading to St James’ Park.

Football Whispers gathers transfer rumours from across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening out of five, with Sturridge rated 2.9 out of five to sign for United.

The 28-year-old, who has 26 caps for England under his belt, netted three goals in 20 appearances and laid on a further three assists for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, to help ensure that the team finished in the top four.

OPINION

With Newcastle likely to land West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon, the fact that Daniel Sturridge is in the running to sign for the Magpies will be great news for the fans. Sturridge may have fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool due to the rise of Mo Salah, but before his arrival, he showed the pedigree he has to be a prolific striker. He showed at Chelsea glimpses of his goal scoring ability, which is what attracted Liverpool to his services in the first place. Newcastle need a forward of his experience and calibre to potentially bring the best out of Rondon if he moves to Tyneside, and boss Rafa Benitez would be mad not to snap up a player like Sturridge. Proven on the international stage with England as well as with his clubs, Sturridge has an excellent eye for goal if given the right service and a run in the team.
