OPINION

The striker has not been part of Rafa Benitez’s plans at St James’s Park and has been sacrificed as part of the club’s stuttering youth team revamp with another player taken off the club’s wage bill. Toney spent the majority of his time at the club out on loan at four football league clubs before completing a permanent move to the Posh and needs to make the move in order to gain regular first-team football but he will certainly not be able to sustain on Tyneside. The young striker was not given a strong opportunity to prove his worth to the Newcastle supporters but is capable of having a healthy career with a club lower down the pecking order in Peterborough. The forward was in fine for Scunthorpe during the second half of last season, netted eight goals in 16 games as the Iron finished fifth in the third tier. With the Posh finishing ninth in the respective league, Toney could play a major role in guiding Peterborough to the play-off places and beyond.
