Many Newcastle United fans took to Twitter in order to slam Christian Atsu for his display during the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday at St James Park.
The 26-year-old replaced Matt Ritchie in the 69th minute of the match against Spurs and proceeded to make a memorable impression for all the wrong reasons.
Lots of Magpies fans took to Twitter to question why Atsu had even been brought on for Ritchie with one stating that since he entered the game the quality of the Magpies’ end product had managed to decreased further.

OPINION
Newcastle United put in a very good performance against Spurs and nearly earned a point from the game. However it’s hard to disagree with these fans that Atsu wasn’t a reason why the Magpies nearly got an exciting result to start their new Premier League season. While one supporter is a little harsh by claiming the the winger, who earns £30,000-a-week at St James Park (Source: Spotrac), is a Championship player at best, you can understand based on his latest display why someone would think that. Hopefully for the sake of his team the 26-year-old gets his act together in the next few weeks and ups his performances otherwise he will let his side down. The left-sided winger is capable of delivering better displays then the one during the loss to Spurs and can soon win supporters over if he proves that to them as soon as possible. Then again maybe Benitez won’t opt to give him another chance in the team anytime soon.
