Newcastle United will be aiming to secure their first win in any competition this season as they travel to the City Ground to take on Championship side Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Wednesday, and Rafa Benitez is expected to make six changes to his starting lineup.

The Magpies fell to an agonising defeat at home against Chelsea at the weekend as the Blues scraped through with a late own goal from DeAndre Yedlin after efforts from Eden Hazard and Joselu had the game in the balance.

Benitez has admitted that the League Cup is not a big priority for the club this season and has said that some younger players may get a chance, meaning he is expected to switch things up in a big way for Forest.

In goal, Karl Darlow is expected to deputise for number one Martin Dubravka.

In defence, Benitez is expected to revert to a back four, with academy defender Jamie Sterry coming in for DeAndre Yedlin at right-back, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar in the middle, and Paul Dummett on the left, with Ciaran Clark dropping out of the side.

In midfield, academy youngster Sean Longstaff is expected to be given a shot alongside Ki Sung-yueng, with Mo Diame handed a rest.

Looking further forward, Matt Ritchie is not available after sustaining a knock, meaning that Ayoze Perez will likely come into the side, with Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy providing the width, while Joselu is expected to start as a lone striker.
