Newcastle United forward Luke Charman has joined League One side Accrington Stanley on loan for the entirety of the 2018/18 season.

As reported on the club’s official website, the 20-year-old has joined Under-23s teammate Dan Barlaser at the Wham Stadium, with his six-month loan announced earlier on Friday.

This is set to be Charman’s first loan spell away from Newcastle, and it comes after an impressive season for the development squad which saw him net 14 times in 26 appearances.

OPINION

This looks to be a perfect first loan move for Charman as he looks to make an impact in a first-team environment. The young forward has been one of the star performers for the Newcastle development team over the past season, and he must now hope that form translates to League One with Stanley, who are competing in the third tier for the first time in their history. Having teammate Barlaser at the Wham Stadium alongside him will certainly help Charman settle in, and it would be brilliant for the Magpies should both players impress at the Lancashire club. Success at development level has been few and far between for the club in recent years, and their hopes are now pinned on players like Charman and Barlaser, who they hope can eventually graduate to the first-team. Both players now need to knuckle down and get going at Accrington straight away, with a long season ahead of them in League One.
