Ligue 1 side Caen have entered the race for Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, according to Foot Mercato

The French football news site report that the Normandy club are looking to bring in offensive reinforcements before the window shuts on Friday, with Aarons now on their list of targets.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has stated this week that the 22-year-old wing wizard will definitely head out on a last-gasp loan in a bid to find first-team football and get his career back on track after a tough year.

OPINION

A move abroad to a club like Caen would be an interesting one for Aarons, who failed to impress during a spell with Serie A side Hellas Verona last season. The young winger has endured a tough time of things over the past year or so, with injuries and off-field problems putting a halt to his career progress. He subsequently failed to convince Benitez he was worthy of a first-team squad place during pre-season, and a loan spell is the clear option for him in the coming campaign. You would think that this season will be make or break for Aarons and his Magpies career, with the youngster failing to live up to the significant hype that surrounded him during previous years. Should he fail to impress elsewhere, then it is highly likely that he will be shipped on permanently next year. However, should he enjoy a productive spell on loan, then Newcastle could be in for a treat as he gets his career back on track.
