Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser has joined League One side Accrington Stanley on a six-month loan deal.

As reported on the club’s official website, the 21-year-old has agreed to join the Lancashire club on loan until the 1st of January, and could make his Stanley debut on Saturday against Scunthorpe.

Barlaser has made three first-team appearances for the Magpies, with the last of those coming about a year ago against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.

OPINION

This is a sensible move for Barlaser, who did not look likely to be handed a first-team opportunity by Rafa Benitez this season. The young midfielder has been in impressive form for the club’s Under-23 side over the past season, but has not done enough to make the leap to the senior set-up just yet. The Turkey youth international will hopefully get regular game time in Lancashire as Accrington Stanley look to impress in their first season in the third tier. This is Barlaser’s second loan spell away from Tyneside, with the midfielder joining Crewe Alexandra for a chunk of last season. Hopefully this loan is more successful than the last however, with just four first-team appearances coming for Barlaser at Crewe. Benitez will hope that Barlaser can find regular minutes and start to develop into a player who can make a big impact in the first-team squad next season.
