Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons will not be involved against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Wednesday ahead of an imminent exit, manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed.

The 22-year-old attacker is being lined up for a loan spell away from the club by Benitez, who wants him to find regular first-team football after a tough year.

Benitez has confirmed that there are multiple teams interested in a loan move for Aarons, who did not impress enough in pre-season to warrant a first-team shot, with Rangers among those linked with a swoop.

As quoted by the Chronicle, Benitez said: “We have two or three teams interested in him. He will not be in the squad for Forest because I have to decide if he goes on loan.

“Clearly it will be good for him. He’s not playing and he hasn’t played in the last year too much either. He has the potential to be a good player so he must play.

“The reason he’s not in the squad for Forest is because I have to give chances to the players that will stay here.”

OPINION

Benitez has clearly confirmed the rumours that Aarons will be heading out on loan before Friday’s deadline, and it looks like the winger will have a few options to choose from. Obviously the club will have a say in where he ends up as well, with Benitez obviously keen to ensure he plays regular football this season. Aarons has had a tough year both professionally and personally, with a loan spell at Hellas Verona not yielding the desired results, and some off-field issues dogging his development. It was thought he may get a first-team shot on Tyneside amid their poor summer window, but that is clearly not on the cards for the youngster. However, Benitez is obviously a fan of his, and a good spell on loan this season could see him finally start to live up to his potential with the Magpies. A move to Rangers looks to be a good move for him, but it may be that another club wins the race for his signature.
