Micky Quinn vented his current frustrations over the ongoing situation regarding Newcastle United and claimed that Mike Ashley needed to publicly address the situation.

The former Magpies forward’s main cause of concern was regarding the club’s transfer business so far this summer and stated it was clear that Rafa Benitez wasn’t being backed in the transfer market.

Quinn claimed that a less loyal manager would have walked away from the club and urged Ashley to clarify why the club was appearing not to be splashing the cash on new recruits.

“Newcastle United’s transfer business is frustrating – and that is putting it kindly,” said Quinn in his column for the Chronicle.

“If Benitez wasn’t so loyal I think he would have walked by now. His love for the fans and his tendency to stick to a contract means he’s still here, but if it was any other club, I feel he would have gone by now.”

“It’s simple, he’s not being backed. He is very much having to act like a second-hand car dealer – wheel and deal.

“We can’t second guess Ashley and there is little public communication from him nor Lee Charnley, maybe if he comes out and clarifies the situation – if there’s no money, say it and fans could get their heads around it. Come and be clear and then it’s up to Benitez as to whether he stays or go.”

“Ashley has made many mistakes, Kevin Keegan, Dennis Wise and Alan Shearer to name a few and he’s on the verge of making another here, it makes me cringe at the thought of what he’s done. It’s embarrassing. I just hope he gets out as soon as possible.”

OPINION

Quinn is painfully spot-on with his assessment of the currently frustrating situation at Newcastle. It seems the club aren’t doing the transfer business required of them to be seen as serious competition in the Premier League next season and nearly every other club seems to be drastically improving their squad. Benitez was fantastically able to guide his side to a top-10 finish in the Premier League last season but he probably used up all his managerial magic to make that happen. While the Magpies’ squad did improve as the season went on as lot of them picked up the valuable top-flight experience that they lacked, the squad still has several key areas that need improving. The main cause for concern as it currently stands is that the Magpies still haven’t addressed their problems in front of goal that effected the team’s chance of doing better. While the Magpies need to welcome more than a lethal finisher to the club, it would at least solve the club’s main problem that is still left over from last season.
