Some Newcastle United fans took to social media to vent their frustration after Rafa Benitez confessed the club had already missed out on some transfer targets this summer.
The Magpies boss shared that the likes of Alassane Pléa who ended up joining Borussia Monchengladbach was a target his summer and suggested that the club was simply moving further down its list of targets.
Benitez’s confession that the club could soon be working towards getting its third choice transfer targets had one fan claim that the Spanish manager would soon depart the club.
“He (Plea) was one of the names on the list, we will see if we have any news in the next few days,” said the Magpies boss, as quoted by the Chronicle.
“Obviously, we need to move players if we want to have money to spend on players
“We will see how quick the others can go.
“Always in the window, you have to do things quickly; if not, you’re losing your targets, and then you go, later on, to players that maybe are not as good as you are expecting in different positions.”
“We will try to sign the right players with the characteristics that we will need for the games. If you go early, you can sign the first or second choice.
“If not, you go deeper and deeper (down the list of targets). The fans need to understand these players here are giving everything, so we have to support them.”
Nothing But Newcastle has rounded up a selection of tweets by Magpies supporters about Benitez’s recent confession:
Why do we always hope this time it will happen we just kidding ourselves , same old boring transfer window for us . Agree with the above very depressing

OPINION
This is a worrying confession for Benitez to make over his transfer targets as it kinda kills that little bit of hope that fans had left about this transfer window being different. Magpies supporters have previously suffered in the last two windows as their club has appeared to act slowly when pursuing players which seems to always end up with them missing out. Benitez knows his squad is in need of strengthening before the new window even though he worked wonders with his current crop of players last season. The genius manager faces a tough task making lighting strike twice and really needs his club to help him by recruiting talented players in this window.
