Newcastle United have signed winger Rosaire Longelo from West Ham on a four-year deal, according to reliable journalist Tom Roddy.

The journalist – who is a sports writer at the Sun – has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 18-year-old has joined the Magpies on a deal until 2022, having passed a medical on Tyneside.

The young left-sided flyer has been released by the Hammers this summer, and recently represented their under-18 side in the Under-18 Premier League, where he made 14 appearances and netted three goals during the 2017/2018 campaign. He also represented Championship side Norwich City at under-18 level before making the move to East London.

OPINION

It is hard to judge whether Rosaire Longelo will be a good signing for Newcastle, as not much as been seen of him because he is so young. However, based on the fact he is only 18-years-old, he will undoubtedly not be making an appearance for the first team any time soon, bar a number of injuries to the left-backs. Nevertheless, a move to the Magpies will give him the opportunity to develop and nuture his potential talent in a different environment than he is used to. This will do him the world of good, and getting regular game time with the Toon’s under-18 squad is exactly what he needs before he possibly makes the step up to the senior side. It is not unheard of for players of this age to make appearances in the Premier League, so it would not be surprisng to see him make a shock cameo for United.
