Newcastle United are set to offer Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck a lifeline after it was revealed that he is not in Unai Emery’s plans for the club, according to Team Talk.

The reputable football website has reported that the Magpies are set to offer the 27-year-old talisman a chance to restart his career on Tyneside after Emery announced that he no longer features in the long-term future at the Emirates.

Toon manager Rafa Benitez is set to make a loan offer for the England international with the club limited on funds for a permanent deal, but the Gunners would like to ideally cash in on Welbeck, who earns more than £100,000-a-week.

OPINION

If Benitez was to negotiate a loan deal for Welbeck, then he could be potentially turn out to be their biggest signing of the summer. The Spaniard would gladly offload Dwight Gayle now this opportunity had presented itself, especially with the vast amount of experience he has in the top flight with Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as international experience with England. A loan deal would be a smart move because it would mean Newcastle would save money on the transfer fee, with Welbeck’s high wages potentially a sticking point to any permanent move. He may not have had the best time in North London, but playing for a top-ten team like Newcastle week in, week out would help him recapture the form that attracted Arsenal to him in the first place. With the top-six forward tipped for the exit at Arsenal, now could not be a better time to snap him up.
